- Dear Great Granny.
-
My soon to be mother-in-law seems to hate me. My fiancee swears that she'll
come around. But, she can't even stand the mention of my name. She thinks
that I'm immoral because I'm not Catholic. He is the youngest of seven and
the rest are all married. One would think that she knows that children grow
up. What can I do to at least get her to accept me? If you could answer
this, I would be so grateful.
Many
Thanks,
- Dear hated daughter in law to be,
-
If she hates you now there is little chance she will love you after you have claimed the major attention of her son. Your fiance can swear all he wants but there is absolutely no guarantee that she will "come around". Most of the problems I hear these da
ys are from daughters in law whose mothers in law hate them. I guess it's something you either have to live with, or not. You choose and then you live with the results of your choice.
I'm sorry I can't give you a wonderful cure for this. You could be as kind and wonderful to her as possible, and let her bring up your children, and run your household, and tell you how to do everything from now until the end of time, but she still won't
love you. Sorry.
Youre sincerely,
Great Granny
