At 87 I feel sure that I will be interested in the same things that interest me now.
Music - records - CD. How about a book on tape? And if she doesn't have the
tape player, include that too even it might come to more than $30. Go together
and share the giving with another relative.
I'm sure she has a houseful of trinkets, and probably all the pictures her walls
can hold, but if you have a real nice photo of the family, you could have it enlarged
and framed.
You didn't mention candies. Chocolate covered ginger is my favourite. Think of her dental
situation and get something appropriate. Maple sugar candy is great.
How about a bottle of Quintreau, or Irish Cream, or Sherry. Vodka would be my choice.
Maybe a couple of bottles of good wine.
If she's a coffee person, how about a nice big comfortable looking coffee cup and saucer.
And there's always the video of some wonderful old movie that is really fun to watch over
and over. Find out who were her favourite actors and seek them out.
A subscription to National Geographic is wonderful - it brings lovely pictures into the house
each month all year. And here's one more idea - fill up her kitchen with many cans, boxes,
cartons, bottles or whatever, of something she enjoys. For me it could be grapefruit juice,
cranberry juice, raisin bread, cheddar cheese - to name a few. Make it up into a
gift basket with her favourite cookies at the bottom.
If you think of some other ideas, please let ME know.
Good luck.
